WATER & SEWER NOTES:
1. UTILITY CONTRACTOR SHALL NOT COMMENCE WORK WITHOUT PRIOR NOTICE TO THE
CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH PUBLIC SERVICES DEPARTMENT (246-2766). TWO DAYS
NOTIFICATION IS REQUIRED BEFORE ANY LINES ARE CONNECTED TO THE EXISTING
UTILITY SYSTEM.
2. ALI. WATER MAINS SHALL. HAVE. A MINIMUM OF 30" COVER FROM FINISHED GRADE. IN
UNPAVED AREAS AND 36" COVER IN PAVED AREAS. WATER AND SEWER MAINS ARE
DESIGNED TO FINISHED GRADE AND SHALL BE PROTECTED FROM DAMAGE UNTIL ALL
WORK IS COMPLETED.
3. A HORIZONTAL SEPARATION OF A MINIMUM OF 10 FEET SHALL BE MAINTAINED
BETWEEN PARALLEL WATER MAINS AND SEWER MAINS (INCLUDES FORCE MAINS).
WHERE WATER AND SEWER MAINS CROSS WITH LESS THAN 18 INCHES VERTICAL
CLEARANCE, ALL PVC PIPE SHALL BE ENCASED IN CONCRETE FOR A DISTANCE OF 20
FEET CENTERED ON THE POINT OF CROSSING; OR A 20 FOOT SECTION OF DUCTILE
IRON SEWER PIPE CENTERED ON POINT OF CROSSING MAY BE SUBSTITUTED. THIS
SITUATION MAY BE OR MAY NOT BE NOTED ON DESIGNED DRAWINGS.
4. POURED CONCRETE THRUST BLOCKING IS REQUIRED WHERE WATER MAINS AND FORCE
MAINS ARE TERMINATED AND AT ALL BENDS.
5. UNSUITABLE MATERIALS UNDER WATER AND SEWER MAINS SHALL BE REMOVED AND
REPLACED WITH SELECTED BACKFILL, PROPERLY COMPACTED TO 951 OF MAXIMUM
DENSITY. (SEF. GENERAL NOTE d6)
6. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL COORDINATE THE WORK WITHIN CITY RIGHTS-OF-WAY WITH THE
PROPER AGENCIES FOR MAINTENANCE OF TRAFFIC AND METHOD OF CONSTRUCTION AND
REPAIR.
7. ALL WATER MAINS 4" AND LARGER SHALL BE C 900 DR 18 CLASS 150 PVC OR
DUCTILE IRON CLASS 51 OR BETTER.
8. ALL SANITARY SEWER MAINS SHALL BE SDR 35 PVC CONFORMING TO ASTM D3034 OR
DUCTILE IRON CLASS 51 CONFORMING TO ANSI A21.50 AS REQUIRED.
9. DURING CONSTRUCTION, THE CONTRACTOR SHALT, INDICATE AND PROTECT THE LOCATION
OF THE TERMINATION OF EACH WATER AND SEWER SERVICE AND EACH VALVE WITH A
STAKE. OR MARKER SUITABLE. TO THE ENGINEER. (P.T. 2" X 4" OR FENCE POST)
10. ALL GATE VALVES SHALL BE NON -RISING STEM TYPE AND SHALL BE SUITABLE FOR
200 PSI NON -SHOCK WORKING PRESSURE. GATE VALVES SHALL BE MECHANICAL
JOINT OR FLANGED, VALVES SHALL BE IRON BODY, BRONZE -FITTED. VALVES SIIALL
BE CLOW, M 6 H, MUELLER OR APPROVED EQUAL. VALVE BOXES WITH SCREW
EXTENSIONS SHALL BE OF CAST IRON CONSTRUCTION, 3/8 INCH MINIMUM WALL
THICKNESS AND SHALL BE NON -TACKY TAR ENAMEL COATED. THE WORD "WATER"
SHALI. BE CAST IN COVER. ALL GATE VALVES INSTALLED SHALL OPEN BY TURNING
TO T'IIF. LEFT (COUNTER CLOCKWISE) WHEN VIEWED FROM THE TOP. VALVES SHALL
HAVE RESILIENT SEATS.
11. ALL CURB STOPS AND FLUSHING HYDRANT VALVES ARE TO BE FORD BALL -TYPE WITH
LOCKING CAPABILITY.
WATER S SEWER NOTES (CONT'D):
12. METER BOXES AND CURB STOPS ARE TO BE FURNISHED AND INSTALLED BY THE
UTILITY CONTRACTOR. INSTALLATION OF BOXES IN ASPHALT OR CONCRETE WILL
NOT BE ALLOWED WITHOUT SPECIFIC PERMISSION FROM THE CITY PUBLIC SERVICES
DIRECTOR. ANY METER BOX WHICH MUST BE PLACED IN A TRAFFIC AREA SHALL
BE EQUIPPED WITH A TRAFFIC LID. METERS ARE TO BE INSTALLED BY CITY OF
ATLANTIC BEACH PERSONNEL ONLY.
13. HYDROSTATIC AND LEAKAGE TESTING, AND DISINFECTION OF THE WATER MAINS
INSTALLED SHALI. BE PERFORMED IN ACCORDANCE WITH CITY OF JACKSONVILLE,
FLORIDA, STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS. NO TESTING SHALL BE PERFORMED UNTIL
ALL SERVICES HAVE BEEN INSTALLED. A REPRESENTATIVE OF THE CITY OF
ATLANTIC BEACH MUST BE PRESENT DURING THE HYDROSTATIC AND LEAKAGE TEST,
THE TEST IS TO BE CERTIFIED BY A REPRESENTATIVE OF THE DESIGN ENGINEER.
14. ALI, INVERT ELEVATIONS OF PROPOSED SANITARY SEWER MANHOLES ARE BASED AT
THE CENTER OF THE MANHOLE. SLOPE OF GRAVITY MAINS ARE BASED UPON MANHOLE
INVERTS.
15. WHERE SEWER SERVICES COME FROM A SEWER MANHOLE, THE INVERT OF THE SERVICE
SHALL BE NO GREATER THAN TWO FEET ABOVE THE MANHOLE. INVERT. SMOOTH
TRANSITIONS SHALL BE PROVIDED.
16. SANITARY SEWER SERVICES SIIALL BE 6" PVC OR DUCTILE IRON WITH A MINIMUM
SLOPE OF 0.006' PER FOOT.
17. MANHOLES AND MANHOLE RINGS SHALL BE A NOMINAL 24" DIAMETER EXCEPT WHERE
NOT ACCE:P,rABLF IN THE CITY OF JACKSONVILLE AREAS OF JURISDICTION.
18. TELEVISION INSPECTION AND 51 DEFLECTION TEST SHALL BE REQUIRED ON ALL
GRAVITY SEWER, THIS SERVICE SHALL BE PROVIDED BY THE CONTRACTOR AS PART
OF THE SANITARY SEWER CONTRACT. A FULL REPORT, AS TO CONDITION OF THE
PIPE WITH PERTINENT DATA SUCH AS DISTANCE, BETWEEN MANHOLES, LOCATION
OF SERVICES, ETC., SHALL BE SUBMITTED TO THE ENGINEER AND CITY OF ATLANTIC
BEACH. ANY DEFECTS ENCOUNTERED SHALL BE REPLACED OR REPAIRED PRIOR TO
FINAL. ACCEP'T'ANCE. ALL REPAIRED SECTIONS MUST BE REINSPECTED PRIOR TO
ACCEPTANCE.
19. NO CONNECTION TO EXISTING POTABLE. WATER SYSTEM SHALL BE ALLOWED UNTIL
ALL PROPOSED WATER LINES HAVE BEEN PRESSURE TESTED, DISINFiCTED, AND
CLEARED FOR SERVICE.

PAVING AND DRAINAGE. NOTES:
1. THE CONTRACTOR SIIALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR LOCATING AND PROTECTING EXISTING
UTILITIES AND STRUCTURES UNTIL ALL CONSTRUCTION IS COMPLETE. THE -
CONTRACTOR SHALL REPAIR OR PAY FOR ALL DAMAGES MADE TO EXISTING FACILITIES
AND STRUCTURES.
2. ALL UNDERGROUND UTILITIES MUST BE INSTALLED PRIOR TO PREPARATION OF
SUBGRADE.
3. ALL EXCAVATION SHALL BE DONE: IN A MANNER TO MINIMIZE WATER TURBIDITY AND

6. PAVEMENT SHALL BE SAW -CUT AND REPAIRED PER CITY OF JACKSONVILLE STANDARD

3. ALI, DISTURBED AREAS SHALL BE SEEDED AND MULCHED.
4. NO TREE WITH A TRUNK OF MORE THAN SIX (6") INCHES IN DIAMETER SHALL BE
REMOVED WITHOUT A PERMIT (SECTION 23-18 ATLANTIC BEACH CITY ORDINANCE).
5. PERFORM ALI, CLEARING AND CRUBRTNG, EXCAVATION, FILLING, BACK -FILLING AND
GRADING INDICATED ON THE DRAWINGS AND AS NECESSARY TO ACCOMPLISH THE WORK.
6. EXCAVATED MATERIAL THAT IS SUITABLE AS DETERMINED BY AN ENGINEER MAY BE
USED FOR FILLING AND BACK -FILLING. OBTAIN ADDITIONAL MATERIAL, IF
NECESSARY, FROM BORROW AREAS DESIGNATED BY AN ENGINEER.
UNSUITABLE. MATERIAL IN PAVEMENT SUB -GRADE SHALL BE REMOVED TO A DEPTH OF
THREE (3) FEET BELOW CENTERLINE GRADE AND 2.5 FEET BEYOND EDGE OF PAVEMENT.
BACKFILL WITH SUITABLE MATERIAL.
7. EXCAVATION LIKELY TO DISLOCATE., DAMAGE OR IMPAIR THE STRENGTH OF OTHER
STRUCTURES ALREADY IN PLACE SHALL BE DONE ONLY AFTER ADEQUATE PROTECTION
HAS BEEN PROVIDED FOR THE IN-PLACE STRUCTURES.
8. EXISTING UTILITIES SHOWN ON THESE PLANS ARE APPROXIMATE ONLY. IT SHALL
BE THE CONTRACTOR'S RESPONSIBILITY TO LOCATE AND VERIFY, IN THE FIELD,
THF. HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL LOCATIONS AND ELEVATIONS OF ALL EXISTING

SQUARE. METAL TAG IS TO BE NAILED TO THE STREET'S PAVEMENT AND PAINTED AS
SPECIFIED ON DESIGN DRAWINGS.
12. ALL. LOT CORNERS SHALL BE PROPERLY MARKED SO THAT UTILITY COMPANY OR ITS
ENGINEER CAN, UPON RECEIPT OF "AS -BUILT" DRAWINGS, VERIFY THE MARKED WATER

GENERAL NOTES -SANITARY SEWER CONSTRUCTION
I . Contractor shall cordinate installation of sanitary sewers with all other utilities
prior to commencing construction.
2. If project is within the J.E.A. (Jacksonville Electric Authority) service area, the
contractor is advised to be throughly familar with J.E.A. procedure no. MD 904
regarding installation of services.
3. Television inspection is required for al gravity sewers. In addition, a 5% deflection
test is required for all PVC gravity sewers. A full report of these tests shall be
provided to the Owner and Engineer for approval. Infiltration tests may be waived
if television inspection is satisfactory. Cost of all testing shall be bourne by the
Contractor.
