Exh 9AGENDA ITEM 9 JULY 14,.2003 July 8, 2003 MEMORANDUM TO: The Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Commission FROM: Jim Hansoi Y ~gaz SUBJECT: City Mara 's Report Emergency Repair at Wastewater Plant; An emergency purchase order to Gruhn May,. Inca (the city's regulaz contractor) was approved on June 30, 2003 to repair a large leak in a 14-inch air main going to the digester at the Atlantic Beach Wastewater Treatment Plant. An old mechanical joint tee and valve failure caused the problem. As part of the repair, the underground tee and valve will bestraight-piped and replaced with a butterIly valve in the air main above ground, which will facilitate any future repairs. The cost for the repair totaled $19,230.40. Funds are available in the Sewer Fund Acct. No. 410-SS08-S3S-3400. This is being reported to the Mayor and Commission because it exceeds the $10,000 limit for City Manager approval of normal purchases. Janitorial Services; The City has been notified that the janitorial contractor that has been' working for the city for the last 4 months, Treasure Enterprise, will cease providing service to Atlantic Beach on July 14t°. City staff has contacted the other bidders that provided prices when janitorial services were last bid, and has checked references. A temporary purchase order has been issued for 30 days of janitorial service to Atlantic Coast. We expect to submit a staff report to the City Commission recommending a replacement contractor for the remainder of the janitorial contract at the next meeting. Air Show Agreement; The City has received a draft Agreement from the City of Jacksonville for the 2003 Air Show, which will be conducted at the beaches. The Jacksonville's draft includes a number of changes from the previous agreement in 2001. The City of Jacksonville Beach has indicated a desire to amend several of the proposed provisions prior to approval. The Agreement will be put on the agenda fqr approval by the Mayor and Commission of Atlantic Beach as soon as Jacksonville Beach's proposed amendments are available to consider. New Web Page; The new web page that has been designed by contractors working with Atlantic Beach staff is now "live" and has replaced the city's old web page that existed for the last couple of years. Aside from being more visually appealing, the web site offers many more features for the public and is easier to use.
