Overall Comments Answered Skipped 37 54 Respondents Responses 1. I don't understand why my hourly wage determines why I can't receive time and a half when I work more than an 8 hour day or a 40 hour week. 2 Will discuss during interview. 3 NA 4 Will speak only in a one on one 5 will talk one on one 6 Will only speak in a one on one 7 Overall I enjoy my position, and being employed with the City. Recent political changes have lessened some hostilities that were once felt throughout the city by both employees and citizens, have subsided, and there is a better atmosphere overall. Recent, previous management was well liked, but new, unknown management has been welcomed, from what I see. 8 There is a sense of favoritism within the upstairs management. There is no room or opportunities for advancement unless someone dies or quits. There is no training provided for anything. 9 Would only like to talk in a one on one 10 Enough said. Thanks 11 I would prefer to comment one on one 12 Never been recognized formally for all the work I have done over many many years of employment. It is disheartening. 13 The city manager, deputy city manager, and the human resources director would serve their employees well by spending time with each department and employee to fully grasp their day-to-day workflow and processes, and to listen to feedback from employee to help provide them the tools, resources, and training to make their processes more efficient and productive. 14 I believe the police department retirement program should be amended to back the way it was prior to 2014. I often consider applying to other agencies based on that issue alone. I honestly do not believe that the current retirement system could provide the security I will need once I retire. When I inquire about the subject, I'm only ever told it's impossible for it to change and that it never will. That is the main reason why I don't feel secure. 15 The new patrol shifts were implemented for 12 hours shifts to 10.5 hour shifts which was decided by staff with no choice of staying with 12 hour shifts. This took away several off days and turned them into work/training days for the patrol officers. I feel work schedules thru the department are not being maximized with very few people who work on Fridays. 16 Changes in leadership over the last year have been very positive. I believe that the City is well run and getting better. The new emphasis on customer service,. no matter the circumstance, may be a little extreme. 17 I think the city would benefit it's residents, if certain employees would return calls they are left. Habitually several people do not place a priority in contacting or returning. This is more important than just simple etiquette, it's part of their jobs that aren't done correctly, in my humble opinion. 18 Just know there are always going to be employees that will never be happy, no matter what the City does! 19 Upper management must be held accountable at all times and City policies and Union agreements must be used as a guide line. 20 I've worked for multiple municipalities and AB is the best so far. I really like working here. 21 Oral Consultation with the group to explain more in Detail. The issues with Race have become so apparent that guys don't even apply for jobs because the Management has decided beforehand who they want regardless of experience or tenure with the city ... One of the major problems has been the inexperience of our Human Resource( Manager) who has misdirected all information that has caused problems within the city and put a wedge between the groups with the workplace .. This is a Hostile workplace and being involved with the employees. I know first hand that Race has been a major factor in most cases. Bullying and intimidation has been the motto for so many of the New managers here in the city. 22 I like working for the City of Atlantic Beach, pay and benefits are great and I have always been treated wel.l by any and all other employees of the city including the City Manager and assistant city Manager and Police Department Command staff, I don't know the Mayor or anyone on the city commission. 23 in my department I would like to see monthly meetings, right now we don't have any. 24 The people I work with on a daily basis are all wonderful and I am blessed that way. My main complaint is the wide expanse in salaries. And when you see others, new people, getting hired at a much higher salary than an almost 10 year, highly recognized in the field [state and local] employee that has pushed hard to make the position something of which to be proud, it takes some of the heart out of you. My immediate supervisor fortunately is one in a million. She offers me hope and I hang onto that. 25 WE NEED TO WORK ON FAIRNESS AND UNITY WITHIN OUR CITY. 26 With the number of issues going on in the city, why are we doing a survey. How will this improve the current conditions if there's no change in personnel. All issues could have been resolved by HR. Management if the City of Atlantic Beach would follow policy. 27 I think that the city has a problem with management and a total lack of professionalism. I have a supervisor that cannot communicate in writing, nor orally, yet that is a major part of his job. It seems like he knows little to nothing about Water and Wastewater systems, although he is supposedly in charge of both. He has few to no actual supervisory skills and can blow up at any moment. He's petty and vindictive and fired my original supervisor, the Water Superintendent, because he was black. The reason he gave was desertion of duty, even though he had been informed by Public Utility employees that the Water Superintendent's significant other had just been released from the hospital, and could not be left alone for a few days. Instead of showing concern and asking if the Superintendent needed any more time he plotted to fire him, using the excuse that he had not called him directly to ask for time off. 28 The working climate in Atlantic Beach seems quite political. Sometimes that is uncomfortable. 29 There is a perception of racial discrimination here with some of the employees of The City of Atlantic Beach, where I believe none exists. False claims have been publicized , and people have been terminated and this is just not right. 30 No teamwork or good communication among departments. City focuses on customer service in keeping residents happy but if departments are not working hand in hand together, it makes the whole city look bad. Department attitudes are that if it doesn't pertain to them they don't want to assist, when if they look st the picture instead of saying no immediately, they will see that it does pertain to them. Hogencamp protects departments instead of making them accountable. Berry is racially selective in who she wants to assist. 31 Most employees are good people and are capable or working well with others. However, many are stretched thin and become short with or reluctant to help fellow employees while trying to maintain an expected level of service within their job and to residents. This is made worse when certain people in upper management fo.rce staff to prioritize the loudest residents. 32 I would like to see the CSRs and Meter Readers better compensated for their jobs and responsibilities 33 I know that everyone is not telling the truth on this survey because this can be traced back to them. It is being filled out because of the numbers and we were told that 100% partition was expected. 34 The past Commissions,, and in particular, the past Mayor, would have made this survey an absolute joke. The election of the current Mayor and Commissioners, and the hiring of a professional City Manager, have made a big improvement. The new Pay Study is their first opportunity to put their money where their mouths are. 35 none 36 Thank you to management/Commission for doing this. 37 nfa
