BACKGROUND: In 2001, the second phase of Town Center was completed and then
City of Jacksonville Mayor John Delaney presided over the
dedication on May 23, 2001. The first two phases were completed
with the City of Jacksonville funds for design, construction and
construction management.
In Fiscal Year 2002-3, we budgeted $75,000 for Phase III in the
Convention Development Fund with the expectation of funding
from the City of Jacksonville for a part of the project.
Unfortunately, we were not able to obtain the City of
Jacksonviile's commitment for funding and prepared a package
in-house, updating the original plans and preparing specifications
in-house.
Seven potential bidders attended a mandatory prebid meeting
on July 17, 2003 and bids were opened on August 6, 2003.
The three bids received were:
1. Petticoat Contracting, Inc. $135,030.70
2. R&B Contracting, Inc. $156,710.50
3. Walding Company $126,845.00
RECOMMENDATION: Award the contract to Walding Company for $126,845.00. If a
medjool palm is desired at the corner of Ocean Blvd. and Ahem
Street, an additional $4,500 should be added.
BUDGET: $75,000 is budgeted in the Convention Development Tax Fund,
and the balance, $51,845.00 (or $56,345.00), can be funded from
the %2 cent sales tax fund.
