DATE: August 18, 2003
BACKGROUND: Builders Care has fully completed rehabilitation of two of the three homes
previously authorized in June, and the third will be completed this coming week (pending dry
weather.) We estimate that approximately $8000 will remain, and staff is now working to
identify applicants, which are most in need of immediate assistance so that income and eligibility
verifications can be completed. This information will be provided for the Commission's
consideration at the August 25th meeting, but since the end of the fiscal and grant yeaz is quickly
approaching, staff requests approval to authorize Builders care to perform the remaining
construction services.
The Planning and Building Departments have been very satisfied with the services provided by
and the City's relationship with Builders Care. Work has been timely, of good quality and the
coordination with Builders Care allows the City to ,continue its small housing rehabilitation
program in an efficient and resourceful manner.
RECOMMENDATION: Authorize Builders caze to perform the remaining construction
services for income eligible residents, expending the balance of Fiscal Year 2002-2003 grant
funds.
BUDGET: Account 110-1005-515.83-00, not to exceed $30,000.00 for all Fiscal Year 2002-

AUGUST 25, 2003
On Friday, August Sth, Builders Care brought two youth groups to our rehab house at 320
Dudley Street to assist with the re-roof and the interior renovations. Within a day, the house was
re-roofed; the interior was emptied, scrubbed and repainted from floor to ceiling, -- and a
hundred or so pounds of snow cones had been consumed.
