A. Parking-configuration related safety issues at 18th Street
The plan includes parallel parking on the north side of 18th , moving the handicap and
ocean rescue parking to the south side (if possible) and adding motorc ycle and scooter
parking to the north side if the length of the street results in a non-integer number of
parallel spaces. The plan also satisfies the number of spaces needed for beach re
nourishment funds by , for example , attaining credit for current parking that is used but
not accounted for and addin g bicycle parking at various accesses . It was agreed that the
plan should be discussed at the mid-August PPSARC meeting.
Discussion around changing the configuration of the 18th street beach access , with the
goal of improving safety, ensued. It was agreed that the parking configuration on 18th
should be addressed first , a s it is an immediate and significant safety threat, and that the
access layout would be addressed once the parking configuration was dealt with.
