Statement for consideration for Seat 2-Atlantic Beach City Commission District 1308
Bruce S. Bole
I have lived in Atlantic Beach on Shell Street since 2005 after retiring from a successful Navy
career. I have lived in 22 different locales and I've chosen to make Atlantic Beach my permeant
home. To this day I'm involved with our Federal Government as a Defense Contractor but it's
time to give back at the local level. I believe I have the skill set and the background to help
Atlantic Beach move forward. My daughter graduated from Fletcher HS and my youngest
attends school locally.
In my 30-year career as a Navy Carrier pilot I've faced many challenges and leadership
opportunities across the full spectrum of challenging environments. The one theme that I
believed propelled my career was one of fairness to all people. Whether it was a Midshipmen at
the U.S. Naval Academy or a prisoner in Guantanamo Bay I believe my record shows a fair
compassionate leader. Today I work for one of the largest non-profit Alaska Native
Corporations in the United States out of my home in Atlantic Beach which gives me the
opportunity to interact with major Federal Departments such as DOD and DHS. One of the skills
I would hope to add to the Commission is my ability to interact on our city's behalf if needed
with various governmental agencies. One of my former jobs was dealing with hurricane Katrina
and the aftermath for the Navy. I was awarded a Meritorious Service Medal for the effort and I
believe dealing with natural disasters may be a useful skill to have on the City Commission.
I was lucky enough to get the Navy to send me to graduate school where I received a Master's
in Political Science from Auburn University and a Master of Science in International Security
Affairs from the Naval War College along with my degree from the Naval Academy. I don't know
how that educational background will help me in the AB City Commission, but I do know it
taught me one thing-To Listen.
My company deals with multimillion-dollar contracts on a daily basis and I would say that I've
learned a lot on the financial side of things and I'm willing to dig deep into the numbers if called
upon.Just like I do in my day to day job-I consider the taxpayer's money sacred.
I want to make Atlantic Beach better-And I'm willing to put in the time and effort. Ask the
people that live on my street. I'm aware of some of the challenges- Parking, crowds, crime, etc.-
I've deal with similar issues across a wide spectrum both stateside and overseas. I need to be a
more active member of my community and this looks like an excellent fit for me.
I won't make this statement long and I know you have my resume- If I'm not selected please let
me know a good volunteer position that you feel could use my skills-Atlantic Beach has given
me so much- I'd like to give something back-Thanks, Bruce
