STAFF REPORT
AGENDA ITEM; Influent Screen at Wastewater Plant #2
SUBMITTED BY: Donna Kaluzniak CEP, Utili Directo
DATE:: September 11, .2003
BACKGROUND: The existing preliminary treatment units for influent to Wastewater Plant
#2 (739 Wonderwood Road) are insufficient, allowing debris to enter the plant that can build up
in tanks and damage .the mechanical equipment.. Staff budgeted. to rehabilitate one existing
Andritz Hydrasieve screening unit and purchase a second matching Hydrasieve to install at the
plant. influent structure. These screens. are double-sided stainless steel sieve-type units to remove
eery small particles of grit and debris (0.060 inches)..
Staff requested a price to purchase the new unit directly from the manufacturer;. This is a sole
source item, as it must match the existing unit, and'the cost is $24,920.
Because this was a sole source item; staff obtained prices for a similar type of sieve screen unit
from. two other manufacturers. These units are a.ll proprietary, sole source, designs, so are not
exactly the satxze, but are very similar to the unut we' are asking to purchase. A screen-from Merit
Co. (if double. sided like this Hydrasieve) would cost $31,300, and from. Karon Equipment is
$31,020,..
BUDGET: ' Staffbudgeted $50,000 for static screens for °the influent structure in the Sewer
Treatment Fund under account no. 410-5508-535-6300.
RECOMMENDATION: Authorize staffto purchase the Andritz Hydrasieve screening unit
.from Andritz-Ruthner, Inc. in the amount of $24,920.
