Hi Kevin,
I'm reaching out today -regarding.a citation from the City of Atlantic Beach
on a printed sign covering the plywood to the front of our store.
As you recall - AshleGryre is the business that has suffered 3 major drunk driving impacts in
the last 4 years. Of recent we had our 3rd on March 26, 2018.
? Case# - 18-82004440
The front of AshleGryre is still waiting on construction repairs as of today. I have no idea if a
permit has been applied for or issued.
However, from the car accident-there is a piece of plywood that is covering what use to.be a
window and a structural concrete knee wall to our store front. With the chaos of the shopping
center- between the negative news of demolishing the building, the vacant and covered
windows of Jimmy Johns - we placed a "tasteful" -please excuse our mess temporary sign
while we reconstruct from the accident. The signage is professionally printed and is simply to
let the community know that we are "not permanently closed".
I have attached an actual photo of the sign that is attached to our business. If a window were
there - it would be enclosed on the inside, however we have a piece of plywood.
I understand the necessary reasons to keep a cohesive policy with regards to signage etc. I'm
curious though that anyone within the City of Atlantic Beach would not be aware of the
challenges that AshleGryre is dealing with-thru no fault of our own.
How would AshleGryre go about asking for forgiveness on this sign while we wait the property
owner to make the MUCH needed repairs to the building so that our business can get back to
operating normally?
What I find odd in all of this - is the inconsistency in citations this week.
? I spoke to BB&T about their signage on their sidewalk and their street corrugated signs -
and they said no one cited them for their signage.
2
? Goodwill with their posters in the Window received no citation.
? Peterbrooke was Cited for various "decor" items and windows with signage:
? The Nail Salon was cited for their inside marketing posters... by the way they have
turned them around - and now the back side of the poster- solid white is now facing the
street... does that just not seem odd to anyone in Atlantic Beach?
? Selinas Accessories - who hangs a sign on the front fence, hangs their purses all over the
sidewalk-has a blinking sign- did NOT received a citation.
And more odd was that the reason for the citations was a complaint by the Gate
Petroleum. Why would Gate be concerned about this building and not the buildings that
surrounds it's facilities? Hence I feel these citations are being targeted to the Shoppes of
NShore.
I've include the photos of our sign on the exterior of the plywood and the plywood on the
interior of our store. I've also included the image of the vacant unit next to us that is infested
with "flies" that are intruding into our storefront.
? I've addressed the flies with the property owner- but I'm not sure which window
deserves more attention... AshleGryre with a "temporary" sign or a disgusting fly
infestation.
This property is suffering from Neglect. I've been waiting since March for repairs and while the
citation for signage may actually be a code violation- I think it looks much more appealing than
a vacant neglected building.
Please direct me on how I can proceed for a temporary waiver. The citation was issued on
8/14/18. There is no citation number.

Robin Spence
