SUBJECT: City Manager's Report
Adele Grage Ribbon-Cutting; The ribbon cutting for the newly renovated Adele Grage Cultural
Center has been scheduled for Thursday, December 12`~ at 6:OOpm. Invitations will be sent out
to the Mayor and Commission, all project donors and many others that have been associated with
the project.
Beach Renourishment; Walt Hoegrefe from the City of Jacksonville and Steve Ross from the
Corps of Engineers will make a brief presentation at the Commission Meeting on 11/25/02, to
report on the upcoming beach renourishment project. Atlantic Beach has also received
notification from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection of their intent to conduct
coring operations on'the beaches that will be affected by the renourishment project, including
Atlantic Beach. One core sample would be collected for approximately each linear mile of
beachfront, and will consist of a ten foot deep sediment core. The purpose is to match the sands
located in potential- sand barrow sites offshore with the sand presently on our beaches. The DEP
will operate a 4WD vehicle on our beaches in connection with this sampling program within the
next several weeks.
On a related note; the annual conference on Beach Preservation Technology will be held at the
Sawgrass Marriott Resort in Ponte Vedra Beach on February 10-12, 2003. Information is
available from the City Clerk. .
