Ford, Building Official~~~ DATE: January 22, 2002 BACKGROUND: The State of Florida has developed the Florida Building Code in an attempt to have one unified. code for the entire state, replacing the 14 codes that are presently in use by the various state and private enfities. The FBC has been created by a new commission called the Florida Building Commission. The Commission will over see a1T amendments to the Code and will adopOt anew addition periodically. All addendums or additions to the code will be reviewed by the county code review board and then forwarded to the Florida Building Commission for their review and or approval. Administrative additions to the code must be adopted by the local jurisdiction without review by the state. This includes the establishment of the Building Aepartment and all the positions within the department. Permit fees, re-inspect fees,. etc. are all set and adopted locally. Some sections of the FBC are site specific in that the local jurisdictions must "fill in the blanks " to complete the section such as the minimum floor elevations for flood zones. As of today the Code is set to go into effect on Match 1, 2002. BUDGET: N!A RECOMMENDATION: ATTACHMENTS: Memorandum/Summary of Chan REVIEWED BY CITY MANAGER: AGENDA ITEM #4D JANUARY 28, 2002 Fla.
