Resolution No. 19-11 WithdrawnRESOLUTION NO. 19-I1 a A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACHURGI PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP AND ALL MEMBERS OF THE UNITED STAT CONGRESS TO IMMEDIATELY RE -OPEN THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT; FOR OTHER PURPOSES. WHEREAS, the United States government partially shutdown oper ions on December 22,2018; and WHEREAS, it has become the longest government shutdo in history after surpassing the Twenty -One (21) day shutdown of 1995-1996; and WHEREAS, in Northeast Florida more than five hu red and forty (540) U.S. Coast Guard members are working without pay, hundreds of cont acted government workers are without employment, and thirty (30) employees of the U.S. Nati al Park Service are furloughed; and WHEREAS, the City of Atlantic Beach ("City") V home to federal employees and contractors, including but not limited to members of U.S. CoaA Guard; and WHEREAS, state and local governments ca t afford to close for weeks, denying vital services to citizens and placing the financial staVaects civil servants in jeopardy; and WHEREAS, the government shutdowthe economic growth of our country; and WHEREAS, Florida is fourth hardestin the United States of America by the government shutdown; and WHEREAS, members of the At tic Beach City Commission support a comprehensive immigration policy, but not at the e pense of forcing essential federal employees to work without pay and others to be furloughed; d WHEREAS, it is in the best in rest of residents of the City of Atlantic Beach that we urge both President Donald J. Trump an all members of the United States Congress to immediately re -open the federal government. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH, FLORIDA, that we urge President Donald J. Trump and all members of the United States Congress to immediately re -open the federal government. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that all back pay also be extended to government contractors financially affected by the shutdown. 1 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that upon adoption of this resolution the City Clerk shall immediately transmit an electronic copy to President Trump and every member of the United States Congress.
