RECOMMENDATION FOR PRESENTATION TO THE CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH CITY
COMMISSION TO EXTEND THE PPSARC BY ONE YEAR

extend the PPSARC by one year.

BACKGROUND: The Parking and Pedestrian Safety Advisory Resource Committee (PPSARC)
is charged with evaluating and making recommendations to improve
pedestrian safety within the City. Its primary focus is to make the streets
of Atlantic Beach safer. In this effort the committee has made every effort
to insure its recommended actions in safeguarding the public created a
minimum impact.on both access to our beaches and the integrity and
character of Atlantic Beach neighborhoods. The PPSARC has made several
recommendations, which have been adopted and have addressed safety
issues in the City of Atlantic Beach. The PPSARC has also provided a full
inventory of both existing and potential parking in the City.
JUSTIFICATION: Relative to Atlantic Beach, parking and pedestrian safety, issues remain to
be addressed. (For example see partial list in Appendix 1.) The PPSARC
feels it can be of value to the community by trying to address several of
these issues should it be extended.
RECOMMENDATION: The PPSARC recommends the City Commission:
1. Extend the PPSARC for one (1) year
2. Continue to include the ability of the PPSARC to form Subcommittees of
two (2) or more people
3. Have the Committee consist of seven (7) members
4. Include provision for the filling of future vacancies with preference to
candidates from under -represented districts (Note: Committee expects 2
vacancies)
5. Put in place a provision for new members to need a majority vote of the
PPSARC Committee
