A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH URGING CITIZEN SUPPORT FOR A DRIVE TO
MAKE OUR CITY A LEADER IN TFIE HIGHEST PERCENTAGE OF CITIZENS REGISTERED TO VOTE
AND PARTICIPATING IN THE NOVEMBER 2002 ELECTIONS IN DUVAL COUNTY, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the participation in &ee American elections is a privilege that should not be taken
lightly; and
WHEREAS, throughout history the importance of the individual vote has been recognized over and
over; and
WHEREAS, public office holders at all levels recognize the strength of the voice of a community
that participates in high numbers in elections and give full attention to their concerns; and
WHEREAS, the percentage of voters participating in elections has dropped over recerrt years.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT;
1. The Atlantic Beach City Commission urges our citizens to join in a drive to register all citizens to
vote; and
2. Educate, promote and encourage voters to participate in the November elections at the
highest percentages in Duval County; and
3. The City of Atlantic Beach accepts the challenge of Neptune Beach and Jacksonville Beach,
who are conducting similar voter drives, leading to our beaches being recognized as leaders
in participation in government; and
4. The City of Atlantic Beach agrees to recognize the winning city with a suitable plaque at an
appropriate time following the resuhs of the November election.
This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its final passage and adoption.
