Dear Jim Hanson, or Mayor Meserve,
You met with a group of folks from Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia on Friday, March 22, 2002. They
have contacted us, via a route from the US State Department and the Programming
Agency in Washington, DC.
As a result of your participation in this, Mr. Rufat Gambar Ogly GUItBANOV of Nakhchivan City
Municipality, Azerbaijan is interested in establishing asister-city relationship with you.
The US Department of State has recommended that Mr Gurbanov of Nakchivan, Azerbaijan ask for
assistance from his US embassy. Also, however, if you could respond directly to this e-
mail to the gentleman listed below, to express your interest in pursuing this option, that
would be useful.
The development of Sister City relationships is not part of the IRCJ charter, but if we can be of
assistance in providing contacts or other minor support, we would be most glad to be of
service.
To provide as much opportunity as possible for this to happen, I have included some contact
information below and part of the text from a-mails that have been received since they
returned home.
