Exh 8A AGENDA ITEM #8A JUNE 24, 2002 CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH CITY COMMISSION MEETING STAFF REPORT AGENDA ITEM: Voting Delegate for 76m Annual Conference of the League of Cities SUBMITTED BY: Jim Hanson, ' DATE: June 17, 2002 BACKGROUND: The 76'" Annual Conference of the Florida League of Cities will be held in Boca Raton from August 15"' to 17m, 2002. The .League will be voting on its legislative platform for the upcoming year and each member City must designate a voting delegate to participant in that process. The only City Commissioner that has signed up to atternl this meeting is Dezcmnd waters. BUDGET: Designation of a voting delegate does not cost the City any money. RECOMMENDATION: Designate Commissioner Waters as the voting delegate for the City of Atlantic Beach. VOTING DELEGATE AND RESOLUTION INFORMATION August 15-17, 2002 Boca Raton Resort & Club As you know, the Florida League of Cities' Annual Conference will be held at the Boca Resort & Club in Boca Raton on August 15-17. This year's theme, Celebrating Our Cities, will provide valuable educational opportunities to help Florida's city officials serve their citizenry more effectively. It is important that each city designate one person to be the voting delegate. Policy development, election of League leadership and adoption of resolutions aze undertaken during the business meeting. One ofFicial fiom each city will make decisions that determine the direction of the League. .Registration materials have akeady been sent to each city. Call us if you need additional copies. We have attached the procedures your city should follow for presenting resolutions to the League membership. Resolutions snd Voting delegate forms must be received by the League no later than July 15, 2002.
