01-22-19 CARAC Meeting MinutesCITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH CULTURAL ARTS and RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE Special Meeting Minutes Tuesday, January 22, 2019 @ 6:00 pm Commission Chambers Present: Grant Healy, Marina Kaplan, Dawn Pope, Carol Silcox, Jennifer Stemack (Recording Secretary), Timmy Johnson (Liason) Absent: MateoJurasic, Curtis Eastman 9. Call to order - Chair, Grant Healy called the meeting to order - 6:03 pm 10. Minutes from December 4, 2018 - approve as written, motion made by Marina Kaplan, seconded by Dawn Pope. All in favor. 11. Introduction of New Members - Carol Silcox 12. Recognition of Visitors - Lynn Hartman, Heavenly Quilts 13. Ongoing Business a. Artisans Fair - Paula O'Bannon 1.No Report b. Arts in the Park- Marina 1.Juried some artist. 2.Changed the Wording on the Application to Include Fiber Art. 3.Fiber Art will still be juried along everything else. 4. Date Confirmation April 13, 2019. 5.Volunteer List to Marina 6.Dawn will reach out to Interact for Teen Volunteers/ Youth Council Teens. Dawn to take over all volunteers. - 7. Grant to visit Atlantic Beach Arts Market to get more Artists. c. Jazz Festival 1. Date is September 7, 2019. 2. Need to get artists' availability/commitment. Sound tech in place. 3. Grant suggested January deadline for all Jazz Festival preparations be completed. 4. We have addressed beer lines with Culhanes. 5. Mayor going to reach out to Carol Silcox regarding Fleet Landing sponsorship. 6. Have HS Jazz Band. Douglas Anderson and LaVilla. 7. Chris Thomas as headliner again. d. Volunteer Time Sheet - Paul O'Bannon 1. No report e. New business -Bike Ride 1. An Annual Event replacing Rails to Trails. Showcase city parks. 2. Budget $ 1,000.00 Part Time Temp coordinator, help day of, paying police etc. 3. Police lead the bike event 4. Asked what the Committee's responsibilities are in members' perspective a. Marina agreed that members assist with existing events as needed and members should help shape new events and follow through by having a project manager/coordinator from the Committee with City assistance - all members were in agreement. b. Grant said that the Committee needs to allow in budget additional hours for staffing to complete events if needed c. Dawn motioned to accept the bike park tour proposal from Marina, Carol seconded the motion. All in Favor. Motion Accepted. d. Jennifer to discuss Dutton Island volunteer with Jax Surf and Paddle. 6. Next Meeting -March 5@ 6:00 pm in Commission Chambers a. Bike Ride March 23rd b. Artisans Fair from Paula c. Arts in the Park d. jazz Festival e. Elections of Officers 7.
