City Commission was advised of the possibility of ,,., extending Church Road from its present terminus at Mealy Street westward for approximately two blocks to connect with Dutton Road. This unopened portion is shown in Exhibit A and the `' connection would make it easier to travel to the Dutton Island Preserve. N" At the May 14, 2041 meeting, the City Commission approved an Interlocal Agreement with. the City of Jacksonville for the extension of Church Road and authorized the Mayor to execute the Agreement.. On 3une 6, 2001, the City of Jacksonville Councilpersons Warren Alvarez, Jerry Holland and ~* Elaine Brown, and David Thompson and Bob Kosoy met with residents from Mary Street to obtain their input, ideas and concerns. Their main concerns involved maintaining vegetation and trees that exist in the area; increasing traffic and decreasing privacy. Councilman Holland R-, advised the City of Atlantic Beach that, subsequent to this meeting, the City of Jacksonville's $45,000 contribution towards the project would be tabled until the City of Atlantic Beach held a public hearing regarding the issues. It was decided to wait until Dutton Island was nearly -finished to hold the public hearing. ;: The plans and specifications for this project were completed by J. Lucas & Associates, Inc. in 2001 and we received a St. Johns River Water Management District permit dated June 1, 2001, and an FDEP permit dated May 22, 2001.' Both permits are good for five years from the date of issuance. We will need to obtain a City of Atlantic Beach-tree permit and possibly one from the ~'"' City of Jacksonville in order to proceed with the project. x BUDGET: The cost for the project is estimated at $90,000, with Atlantic '""' Beach's share being $45,000. This amount is basedon an estimate prepared in November 2000 by Jim Lucas, P.E. """" RECOMMENDATION:.
