A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH, FLORIDA,
AUTHORIZING THE POLICE DEPARTMENT TO APPLY FOR THE
2018 JAG DIRECT GRANT
WHEREAS, the police department is tasked with conducting searches for missing
persons, criminals, responding to disaster scenes and critical incidents; and
WHEREAS, the use of an Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) can provide enhanced
situational awareness and the ability to locate persons or objects that may best be observed by the
use of an aerial platform; and
WHEREAS, conducting aerial searches requires the use of visible light cameras and is
enhanced by use of thermal imaging cameras; and
WHEREAS, the Atlantic Beach Police Department has the opportunity to purchase this
equipment with grant funding provided through the State of Florida; and
WHEREAS, the funding for a UAS is not available in the Police Department's current
budget.
NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Commission of the City of Atlantic Beach
as follows: The City Commission hereby authorizes:
SECTION 1. The Police Department to apply for the 2018 JAG Direct grant, the Mayor
to have signatory authority to execute and accept the grant and for the Police Department to have
authority to manage the grant process.
SECTION 2. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its passage and adoption.
