161ORDINANCE NO. / N ORNANCE in reference to general and special Zections in and at the Town of titlantic Beach, Florida; Providing for the registration of Electors; Establishing the office of Regis- tration Officer; and Repealing Ordinance No. 49 Entitled: AN ORDINANCE in Reference to General and Special Elections in and _t the Town of Atlantic Beach, Duval County, Florida; Providing for the Registration of Electors; Outlining their Qualifications for and Prerequisites to Voting; Formally Establish- ing the Office of Registration Officer; and Revealing Ordinance No. A-6, Entitled I AN GRDINANCE Providing for the Registration of Voters in the Town of Atlantic Beach "1.. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE i•"_AYOR iii D TOt%,N COUNCIL GF THE TOWN OF ATLAATIC BEACH, FLORIDA: Section 1. Any person who is a qualified elector in the State of Florida and is a freeholder of said Town of Atlantic Beach, and has resided therein thirty days, or who is not a freeholder but has resided therein ninety days, during the calendar year in which an election is held, is eligible to register with the Registration Officer herein orovided for when the registration books are open. No person shall be en- titled to vote in any election in said Town unless registered as herein provided. Section 2. A person making application for regis- tration as an elector shall take the following oath: I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will protect and defend the Constitution of the United States and of the State of Florida; that I am 21 years old and have resided in the State of Florida for one year; that I am a citizen of the United States and a qualified elector in the State of Florida; that I am (a) a freeholder of the Town of Atlantic Beach, Florida, and have resided therein thirty days during the calendar year of 19 ; or b) I am not a freeholder of the Town of :atlantic Beach, Florida, but have resided therein ninety days during the calendar year of 19 . He shall also give a sufficient description of himself as to reasonably identify his person. Section 3. The Registration Officer shall require every person registering to state under oath or affirmation whether he is a freeholder, and record it opposite his name in the registration books. Section 4. The Town Clerk of the said Town is hereby appointed ex officio registration officer for all general and special municipal elections. The office of said Clerk shall be at the Town Hall of said Town. Said Clerk shall have exclusive charge of the registration of electors, and for said nuroose shall open and keep books suitable for such registration of electors. Section 5. The said registration officer shall., for every general and special municipal election, keep the regis- tration book of the said Town open at said officeevery day and legal holidays in the calendar.week save Sunday/, from 9 o'clock ti. to 12 M., and from 2 o'clock P.i'i., until 5 P. "., for the reg IX7K tration of electors; and such registration book shall be kept open Bor at least thirty (30) days and closed five (5) days aj prior to the holding of any election. Section 6. The said registration of.f-icer shall have published, by posting at the said Town Hall, at the post office in said Town, and at one other public place in said Townselec- ted by the said registration officer, and on the day after the closing of the registration book for any municipal general or special election, a certified list of the registered and qual- ified electors of said Town entitled to vote in such election. Section 7. At the end of the time provided by this Ordinance for the registration book to be kept open by the said registration officer the said book shall be close , and shall not again be opened for registration until after the 2. general or special election because of which it was opened; and then only in the manner provided in and by Section 5 of the Ordinance, supra. Section 8. The said registration officer shall be the official cu9todian of the books of registration, and shall have the exclusive control and management of all matters pertaining to the proper registration of electors at all times. Section 9. Ordinance No. 49, entitled: SAN ORDINANCE in Reference to General and Special Elections in and at the Town of Atlantic Beach, Duval County, Florida; Providing for the Registration of Electors; Outlining their Qualifi- cations for and Prerequisites to Voting; Formally Establishing the Office of Registration Officer; and Repealing Ordinance No. A-6, Entitled 'AN ORDINANCE Providing for the Registration of Voters in the Town of Atlantic Beach ', t' and all ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict here- with, are hereby repealed.
