Exh 7FAgenda Item 7F September 23, 2002 CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH CITY COMMISSION MEETING STAFF REPORT AGENDA ITEM: Action on Ordinance No. 5-02-38 relative to City Commissioners' Salaries SUBMTI'TED BY: Commissioner Borno DATE: September 16, 2002 BACKGROUND: This Commission has never shied away from issues that come to our attention. We need to take a positive stand. and defuse the issue of annual pay adjustments for the Mayor and Commissioners from what is normally termed "apolitical hot potato." The positive decision to enact the attached revised ordinance is a move for the future as well as making right an adjustment that was shied away from last year. A positive vote to make this Change puts this issue into a form that does not come back to the Commission for a vote each year. This is being fair to those who follow in our positions in the future, and yes, it is also being fair to this current commission. The final comment I will make related to this issue is that anyone who labors deserves to he compensated. The Good Lord knows we labor, and in no way;are we looking for just compensation, simply being treated fairly now and in the future: BUDGET: A budget modification will be suhnvtted to fund this action. RECOMMENDATION: Approve passage of Ordinance No. 5-02-38 providing for annual adjustment in Commissioners' Salaries ATTACHMENTS:. 1. Ordinance No. 5-02-38 2.
