Resolution No. 19-33RESOLUTION NO. 19-33 A RESOLUTION NAMING THE FORMER CITY COMMISSION CHAMBER AT ADELE GRAGE CULTURAL CENTER "GULLIFORD HALL" IN HONOR OF FORMER ATLANTIC BEACH MAYOR AND COMMISSIONER BILL GULLIFORD, WHO ALSO REPRESENTED THE BEACHES ON THE JACKSONVILLE CITY COUNCIL; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, Adele Grage Cultural Center is an iconic and charming Atlantic Beach landmark at 716 Ocean Boulevard within Bull Park; and WHEREAS, the cultural center building served as Town Hall (later named City Hall) from 1932 until 1991, when a new City Hall was constructed at 800 Seminole Road within Jack Russell Park; and WHEREAS, theatre groups, civic organizations, families and others utilize Adele Grage Cultural Center for meetings, events, social activities and art exhibits; and WHEREAS, the cultural center also houses the Atlantic Beach Recreation Department offices; and WHEREAS, Bill Gulliford served on the Atlantic Beach City Commission as Mayor and Commissioner during an integral part of the City's history, including during the relocation of City Hall from Bull Park to Jack Russell Park, and also served two terms representing the Beaches on the Jacksonville City Council; and WHEREAS, on the occasion of Mr. Gulliford's retirement from public service, the Atlantic Beach City Commission finds it fitting to name the former Commission Chamber in what is now Adele Grage Cultural Center "Gulliford Hall". NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Atlantic Beach City Commission: Section 1. The City of Atlantic Beach hereby expresses its appreciation and admiration to Bill Gulliford for his exemplary public service career by naming the former Commission Chamber at what is now Adele Grage Cultural Center "Gulliford Hall". Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its passage and adoption. PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City of Atlantic Beach, this 10th day of June, 2019.
