AGENDA ITEM: Traffic Control Markings on Sherry Drive near Atlantic Blvd.

BACKGROUND: During the Sherry Drive Reconstruction Project, the area near the
Palms Inn was repaved and restriped as shown on the attached
Existing Street Striping plan. This paving and striping permitted
cars to continue to park at the Palms Inn. Even though the striping
conforms with FDOT standards, the parking places are only 15'
long and can only accommodate small or compact vehicles safely.
After meeting with the owner of the Palms Inn and visiting the site
again on October 31St, it was decided to try a Revised Street
Striping plan, as shown on the attached sketch. We feel the revised
plan will allow vehicles an additional 5' toward the center of
Sherry Drive and allow for the longer vehicles parking over the
striped 15' long parking places. The owner cannot park vehicles
on Sturdivant since this is all pervious area. We do not plan to
extend the' 15' parking at this time, since this would encourage cars
to swerve even when longer vehicles are not using the area.
RECOMMENDATION: Restripe in accordance with Revised Street Striping plan.
ATTACHEMENTS: Existing Street Striping plan.
Revised Street Striping plan.
BUDGET: Will be done in-house by the Public Works Department, therefore
no funding is required..
