ITEM: reading to change the City's Code of Ordinances, Chapter 2,
Article VI, Sec. 2-226, Holiday schedule.

BACKGROUND: On October 28, 2002, the City Commission approved Christmas
Eve as a holiday for police. union members during an impasse
hearing on the. police union contract.
On November 11, 2002, the City Commission approved the police
union contract and also approved Christmas Eve as a holiday for
other City employee.
ATTACHMENTS: Proposed Ordinance
RECOMMENDATION: In order to codify this action, that the City Commission conduct a
first reading of proposed ordinance and schedule a public hearing
and final reading for December 9, 2002.
FUNDING: It is estimated that the additional cost of this holiday for Police
union members is $8,800 and $2,734 for all other employees.
Unless an employee is required to work on Christmas Eve or
Christmas, there is no additional direct cost to the City for this
action, only a reduction to the total hours that an employee works..
However, the total employee budgeted cost for each workday is
currently $28,293. This action increases the overall budgeted cost
for Christmas Eve to $39,827.

ARTICLE VI, EMPLOYEE BENEFITS; DIVISION 1,
GENERALLY, SECTION 2-226, HOLIDAY SCHEDULE
TO ADD CHRISTMAS EVE, DECEMBER 24TH. AS A
HOLIDAY.
WHEREAS, the City of Atlantic Beach, Florida maintains a employee benefits plan which
includes holidays, and
WHEREAS, the City of Atlantic Beach Florida desires to provide all employees with benefits,
and
WHEREAS, the City Commission has approved the addition of Christmas Eve as a holiday for
all employees, the Code of Ordinances, City of Atlantic Beach, is hereby amended as follows:
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE CITY COMMISSION ON BEHALF OF THE
PEOPLE OF THE CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:

2-226, HOLIDAY SCHEDULE
