BACKGROUND: There is an awning on the east side of the Public Works Building
that covers the fueling area and the back entrance to the garage.
This awning has a total of nine steel beams that need to be replaced
due to substantial rust. The bid opening was held on January 25,
2001 and we had only one bidder. Commercial Sheet Metal
Systems, Inc. bid a total of $15,500.00 to replace the nine beams.
Commercial Sheet Metal Systems; lnc. is the same company that
installed the hydrostop roofing system to the Public Works
Building last year. In addition, they have given us an estimate of
$4,800.00 to repair damage to the hydrostop roofing system that
will be caused by the replacemenT of the steel beams, thereby
keeping our l0 year warranty intact. The roofing work would have
been performed by this company no matter who performed the
repairs to the beams.
