The last meeting of the POC was held on Mazch 13`", and members present concluded that there should not be any reason to meet in the future. Aribbon-cutting event for the Town Center improvements has tentatively been scheduled for Friday, May 18r" at 6:00 pm. The City of Atlantic Beach has taken over maintenance of the Town Center azea, although the contractors aze completing some final punch list items. Thus faz the maintenance on the irrigation system has been significant due to vandalism, repairs from other construction projects, and for other reasons. Bill Johns Waste Oil Site; It was reported several months ago that Atlantic Beach had been notified by the EPA of potential liability for environmental clean up at the Bill Johns Waste Oil Site in Jacksonville. While Atlantic Beach records did not indicate that Bill Johns Waste Oil Site was ever used by the City for disposal of oil and other materials by the City, some records at the site indicate that haulers removing waste for the City had deposited some at the site. Atlantic Beach's total liability for the clean up cost is estimated to be less than $10,000. Upon the advise of the City Attorney, Atlantic Beach has joined with a group of other potentially responsible parties (PRPs) to negotiate a settlement with the EPA. Our cost to join that group initially is $1,000 and the City may be responsible for some additional legal costs. However, attorneys for the PRPs group have indicated an intent to have the charges distributed among the PRPs based upon the volume of waste that went into the facility. Atlantic Beach is considered a "minor contributor". E_mplovee of the Month; Phil Nodine, Director of the Streets and Maintenance Division has been chosen as the City's Employee of the Month for April. He was cited by his supervisor, Bob Kosoy, for putting in a considerable amount of extra work in setting up the Pavement Management System. Staff plans to present this system to the commission at the second meeting in April.
