RESOLUTION NO. 01-10
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH SUPPORTING
MAINTAINING THE BEACHES CITIES AS A SINGLE JACKSONVILLE
COUNCIL DISTRICT
WHEREAS, the cities of Atlantic Beach, Jacksonville Beach, and Neptune
Beach share a unique place as separate municipal governments within
Jacksonville's consolidated government; and
WHEREAS, an important consideration in the reapportionment process is
community of interest; and
WHEREAS, the Beach Cities have been well served as part of a single
Jacksonville Council district since consolidation over thirty years ago; and
WHEREAS, the breakup of the Beaches as a single Jacksonville Council District
would dilute the identity and influence of the Beaches Community; and
WHEREAS, the population numbers and geographic boundaries also support
maintaining a Beaches District,
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Commission of the
City of Atlantic Beach hereby:
Urges that the City Council of the City of Jacksonville support a
reapportionrent design that maintains the Beaches Cities as a single
Council District, and
2. Calls for District 3 Councilman Jerry Holland and At Large
Councilwoman Elaine Brown, as well as the entire Reapportionrnent
Committee, to aggressively support keeping the Beaches Cities as a single
Jacksonville Council District.
PASSED by the City Commission of the City of Atlantic Beach this 14t" day of
May 2001.
