Exh 8BAGENDA ITEM #8B JUNE 25, 2001 CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH CITY COMMISSION MEETING STAFF REPORT AGENDA ITEM: Voting Delegate for 75~' Annual Conference of the Florida League of Cities SUBMITTED BY: Jim ua„Q DATE: Tune 18, 2001 BACKGROUND: The Florida League of Cities Annual Conference will be held in Lake Buena Vista on August 23-25. Policy development, election of League leadership and adoption of resolutions aze undertaken during the annual business meetings. The League of Cities has requested each City to designate a voting delegate for that meeting. The only official from the City of Atlantic Beach that has expressed an interest in attending this meeting so far is Commissioner Dezmond Waters. BUDGET: There is no cost to designate a voting delegate. RECOMMENDATION: Designate Commissioner Waters as Atlantic Beach's voting delegate. This year's theme, Downtown: Connecting Communities, Culture and Commerce, will provide valuable educational opportunities to help Florida's city officials serve their citizenry more effectively. It is important that each city designate one person to be the voting delegate. Policy development, election of League leadership and adoption of resolutions aze undertaken during the business meeting. One official from each city will make decisions that determine the direction of the League. Registration materials have already been sent to each city. Call us if you need additional copies. We have attached the procedures your city should follow for presenting resolutions to the League membership. Resolutions must be received by the League no later than July 20, 2001.
