Exh 8GAGENDA ITEM #8G JULY 09, 2001 CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH CITY COMMISSION MEETING STAFF REPORT AGENDA ITEM: Employee of the Month and Year Program SUBMITTED BY: Donna Kaluzniak, Current Chairman, Employee of the Month Colnmittee~~ DATE: 7uly 3, 2001 BACKGROUND: The City Commission previously authorized The Employee of the Month Program, and an employee has been selected to receive this recognition each month since November, 2000. City staff recently refined the program, and added language to include recognition for an Employee of the Year. A copy of the revised program is attached. BUDGET: Costs for awazds and employee functions connected with the program aze absorbed by individual Department budgets. RECOMMENDATION:. Approve the revised Employee of the Month and Year Program. ATTACHMENTS: 1. Employee of the Month and Year Program, revised 7/2/01. AGENDA ITEM #8G JULY 09, 2001 EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH AND YEAR PROGRAM 1. Purpose: The purpose of this program is to provide an ongoing, systematic mechanism to identify, recognize, and rewazd members of the City Workforce for excellent performance and outstanding service to the citizens of the City of Atlantic Beach. 2. Procedure: a) Any member of the City workforce may make nominations for consideration for Employee of the Month in writing. Recommendations will articulate why this employee should be selected for recognition: b) Nominations will be submitted directly to the Department Head or to the City Manager's Administrative Assistant no later than the first workday of the month preceding the month for which the employee is being nominated. c) Nominations will not be limited by department. All City employees will be eligible for recognition each month. d) A standing committee consisting of 3 department heads will make a recommendation to the City Manager for the employee to be selected. Committee membership will be appointed by the City Manager on a rotating basis. Before making a recommendation, the committee members will review personnel evaluations and discuss the nomination with people who interact with the individual, to include the employee's supervisor and department head; to ensure an accurate representation of the nominee's performance. e) The recommendation will be forwazded to the City Manager for review and approval no later than the tenth of the month preceding the month for which the employee is being nominated. Once a selection has'been made, there will be no course of appeal. f) The City Manager's Administrative Assistant shall make all appropriate notifications upon receipt of the City Manager's final action. g) The selected members will receive: • Recognition by their department at a departmental function held during the lunch hour. The City shall contribute up to $150.00 toward the function. • Four (4) hours off with pay. xau:ovzooi AGENDA ITEM #8G JULY 09, 2001 • Pazking place designated for the Employee of the Month where feasible. • $100 to be awarded at the departmental function. • Letter of recognition from the City Manager with a copy filed within the employee's personnel file. • Framed Certificate of Recognition. h) Those nominated but not chosen will be notified by the committee and continue to be eligible for further consideration under the Employee of the Month Program, if appropriate, for the following 11 months. i) Employees selected for monthly honors will be eligible for Employee of the Yeaz recognition. The Employee of the Year will be selected by all department heads from the employees that have been previously selected as Employee of the Month. j) The Employee of the Yeaz will receive: Recognition by the City at a City function held during the lunch hour. The City shall contribute up to $300.00 toward the function. • Eight (8) hours off with pay. • Pazking place, for a year, designated for the Employee of the Year, where feasible. • $500 to be awarded at the City function. • Letter of recognition from the City Manager with a copy filed within the employee's personnel file. • Framed Certificate of Recognition. • Recognition at a City Commission Meeting (employee attendance optional).
