Thanks, Toni. We've decided against doing the project, so please discard or file the application.

Good morning,
We still have your application here for a block structure and flagstone patio. I am attaching the Building
Departments denial notes.
Correction Comments:
1. From the description of work to be done it sounds like you will be installing a concrete block stem wall
with a footer, back filling with soil and pouring a slab and installing flagstone on the slab.
2. The Florida Building Code, 2017 6th Edition—Building, Chapter 18 SOILS AND FOUNDATIONS,
Section 1807.2 RETAINING WALLS, states that retaining walls shall be designed to ensure stability against
overturning, sliding, excessive foundation pressure and water uplift.
3. Whenever the Code mentions `shall be designed' it is requesting that plans be designed by an engineer who
will sign and seal the drawings/plans for that specific project.
4. Please submit a detailed drawing of the stem wall to show the dimension of the footer and the size of the
reinforcing rebar and the footer dowels and the spacing on center of those dowels. Also include the height of
the finished product, to include the flagstone, from the existing adjacent grade. Depending on the height of the
stem wall you made need a bond beam at the last(top) course of the concrete blockwork. This height may
determine whether or not the Building Official will request a set of designed drawings.

Please let us know if you are still going to build this project.
