Exh 7BAGENDA ITEM 1B July 23, 2001 ORDINANCE NO. 33-01-11 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH, FLORIDA, PLACING ON THE BALLOT AT THE NEXT MUNICIPAL ELECTION ANON-BINDING STRAW BALLOT REGARDING THE WAY CITY COMMISSIONERS ARE ELECTED, AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE BE IT ENACTED BY THE CITY COMMISSION ON BEHALF OF THE PEOPLE OF THE CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH, FLORIDA WHEREAS, same citizens have petitioned the City Commission to create voting districts in the City of Atlantic Beach; and WHEREAS, other citizens have indicated that they wish the method of electing City Commissioners to remain unchanged; and WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to determine the will of the majority of the Atlantic Beach electors. SECTION 1. The following question shall be submitted to the electors of Atlantic Beach at the municipal election on October 2, 2001 "Shall the City Commission open hearings to investigate all reasonable possibilities regarding the way City Commissioners are elected. Following such investigation, if the City Commission has determined that the citizens can be better represented by changing the way City Commissioners are elected, the City Commission shall submit its decision to the people in the form of a binding referendum where they will have the opportunity to acceptor reject such decision." YES NO SECTION 2. The results of the vote of the electors of Atlantic Beach on October 2, 2001, shall be advisory in nature as anon-binding straw ballot. SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect immediately upon its final passage and adoption.
