Resolution No. 19-59RESOLUTION NO. 19-59 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE EXPENDITURES OF FUNDS FROM THE TREE CONSERVATION TRUST FUND FOR DEFINED TREE PLANTINGS ON PUBLICLY OWNED LANDS WITHIN THE CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE CONTRACTS AND PURCHASE ORDERS IN ACCORDANCE WITH AND AS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THE PROVISIONS OF THIS RESOLUTION; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, The City Commission -appointed Environmental Stewardship Committee recognizes the importance of Atlantic Beach's tree canopy and is committed to its enhancement; and WHEREAS, at its November 14, 2018, meeting, the Environmental Stewardship Committee approved recommending the use the Tree Conservation Trust Fund for the planting of trees on multiple publicly owned lands within the City of Atlantic Beach; and WHEREAS, Section 23-14 of the Code of Ordinances requires that the use and distribution of funds from the Tree Conservation Trust Fund be designated by the City Commission; and WHEREAS, the City Commission approved the use of $25,000 for tree plantings pursuant to Resolution No. 18-63 on December 10, 2018, and the City has planted more than 115 trees in Donner Park, Johansen Park and in the Royal Palms neighborhood from a previous Tree Conservation Trust Fund distribution. NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Commission of the City of Atlantic Beach as follows: SECTION 1. The City Commission hereby approves the use of up to $25,000 from the Tree Conservation Trust Fund for the continual planting of trees along the banks of Sherman Creek in the vicinity of City Hall; within the Royal Palms neighborhood; along Seminole Road; and, if funds remain from this $25,000 designation, on other publicly owned lands within the City of Atlantic Beach. SECTION 2. The City Commission hereby authorizes the City Manager to execute contracts and purchase orders in accordance with and as necessary to effectuate the provisions of this resolution. SECTION 3. This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon adoption. ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the City Commission of the City of Atlantic Beach, Florida, 14th day of October 2019.
