A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO PROCEED WITH THE PURCHASE OF A LIGHTNING PREDICTION AND
WARNING SYSTEM FOR THE PRICE OF $26,275; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER
TO EXECUTE CONTRACTS AND PURCHASE ORDERS IN ACCORDANCE WITH AND
AS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THE PROVISIONS OF THIS RESOLUTION; AND
PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City has identified that a lightning prediction and warning system would be beneficial to the
safety of residents and visitors, alike, particularly beachgoers; and
WHEREAS, once implemented, the lightning prediction and warning system may be expanded westward to
cover Russell Park and other key areas; and
WHEREAS, Thorguard, Inc., is the only apparent manufacturer/distributor of a lightning prediction and
warning system; and
WHEREAS, $25,000 is budgeted in the Convention Development Tax fund for this purchase; and
WHEREAS, an additional $1,275 will be allocated from the Other General Government/Machinery &
Equipment account for this purchase.
NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Commission of the City of Atlantic Beach as follows:
SECTION 1. The City Commission hereby approves the purchase of a lightning prediction and warning
system from Thorguard for $26,275.
SECTION 2. Thorguard, Inc. is the only manufacturer/distributor of this product.
SECTION 3. The City Commission has appropriated $25,000 from the Convention Development Tax fund
120-6040-572.64-00) for this purpose.
SECTION 4. An additional $1,275 will be allocated from the Other General Government/Machinery &
Equipment Account (001-1009-519.64-00) for this purpose.
SECTION 5. The City Manager is hereby authorized to execute the contract and such purchase order(s) in
accordance with and as necessary to effectuate the provisions of this Resolution.
SECTION 6. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its passage and adoption.
