09-30-19 CARAC MeetingJR CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH CULTURAL ARTS and RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE Regular Meeting Minutes Tuesday, September 30, 2019 @ 4:00 pm Commission Chambers Present: Laurie Piscitelli, Eastman Curtis, Mateo Jurasic, Paula O'Bannon, Marina Kaplan, Timmy Johnson (Liaison) Absent: Dawn Pope (excused), Carol Silcox Visitor: Joy Carson, Cris Lester, Randi Bhatti, Kathy Wallis, Anne Marie Tucker, Neil Lowin, Latrise Smith, Kurtis Loftus, Kirk Farber, Jay Golomb, JoAnn Wallace, Karen Demuth, Nancy Streets, Joshau Mora, Tracy Marko, Theresa Rykaczewski, Todd Rykaczewski, Anne Marie Moquin 1. Call to order - Chair, Eastman Curtis called the meeting to order - 4:01 pm 2. Minutes from August 7, 2019 - approve as written, motion made by Marina, seconded by Laurie. All in favor. 3. Recognition of Visitors - Eastman Curtis welcomed the visitors. 4. New Business a. Funding requested from Fletcher High School Band Fletcher High School Band requested $500 from the current budget to assist with the purchase of band equipment. Eastman motioned, seconded by Marina to decline the request. All in favor. 5. Old business a. Contribution Presentation - Marina Marina informed the committee that the organizations will have 3 minutes to go over their program. She went on to explain that the point for going through the process is to make everything clear, transparent and consistent. The committee is advisory and will make a recommendation to the City Commission. Staff will collect the score sheets after the presentations and calculate them for the final recommendation. Paula mentioned that the budget for the schools is $28,500 and the requested amount is 37,000 which is $8,500 over budget. The committee heard from representatives from Turkey Trot, Beaches Fine Art, O.M.I., Mayport Middle School, Atlantic Beach Elementary, New Age Hippy, F.A.C.E., Deck the Chairs, Coastal Kicks Soccer, Jacksonville Dance Theatre, The Birds of Fire, Meraki Wellness, Neptune Beach Elementary, DIG Local, Word Revolt Art Gallery and Beaches Go Green. Word Revolt Art Gallery and Beaches Go Green did not meet the guidelines. Marina motioned seconded by Eastman to recommend funding for the following organizations totaling $19,206. 5-0 Tony's Turkey Trot $2,250 Beaches Fine Art $2,400 OMI $1,800 FACE $2,000 Deck the Chairs $1,000 DIG Local $2,700 Jax Dance Theatre $1,800 Birds of Fire $ 900 Meraki Wellness $1,830 New Age Hippy $ 500 Coastal Kicks Soccer $2,026 Word Revolt Art Denied Funding Beaches Go Green Denied Funding Marina motioned seconded by Eastman to recommend funding for the following schools totaling $30,100. 5-0 Atlantic Beach Elementary $13,500 Neptune Beach Elementary $ 7,000 Mayport Middle School $ 9,600 6. Next Meeting- December 3 @ 6:00 pm in Commission Chambers 1. Adjournment - with no further business, Marina motioned for adjournment, Mateo seconded and the motion carried.
