MEMORANDUM
TO: The Honorable Mayor
and Members of the Citv Commission
FROM: Jim
SUBJECT: City Manger's Report
Dutton Island Construction; City Staff continues to work with the contractor and design
engineer to resolve the construction problems that resulted from the surveying error onthe
Dutton Island plans, Additional dirt must be hauled into the island and, at the time ofthe writing
of this report, both the contractor and City staff are obtaining prices from various sources. As
reported eazlier, it may be possible to get the payment for the additional dirt from the Port
Authority agreement to fill in the pond. The contractor has claimed delay of job loses, ahhough
no fmal determinations can be made until the contractor has fully laid out he basis for the claims
along with the time frame of each step in the process. The main thrust of the!discussions at this
point is to get The contractor restarted as soon as possible. The City Commission will be advised
as the project moves ahead.
Atlantic Boulevard Medians: The possible extension of A/C power to the Atlantic Boulevazd
medians has come up in several discussions in recent months. Having A/C power would allow
for irrigation controllers with rain sensors that can shut off the system when irrigation is not
needed. These have been recommended by the Water Management District. ;Having A/C power
on the medians would also enable Christmas lighting to be installed and let us put lighting on
some of the palm trees during the rest of the year. Public Works has estimated the total cost to
extend power lines to each of the medians would be just under $70,000.
Another option to install the rain sensors on the irrigation system is available using a battery
operated remote controller for an estimated cost of just under $5,000: However, this would not
allow for other lighting. No funds aze budgeted for this project.
