BACKGROUND: On November 29,1A9f, bids were opened for the City annual contract for Welding. The
low bidder was Viaplex, Inc. They successfully met all bid requ'vemenu.
Viaplex has performed welding and fabrication work for the City for many years. This work requires ,.
specialized skill, experience and equipment Viaplex' personnel have the rcqu'ved background, knowledge,
experience and equipment. The fees charged by Viaplex for labor and materials have been very reasonable
end competitive.
City has spoken to Viaplex rcgard'utg an extension of then current contract for one year at the current rates
and they have agreed. Asper Bid No. 0001-1: "The City reserves the right to renew the contract for two
additional one-year periods pending n mutual agreement between the City and the vendor, and a review of the
contract performance by vendor for the previous year."
The vendor has agreed to renew his contract, and staff has been pleased with the performance of this
contractor.
BUDGET: These services are used on an u-needed basis, and funding is included in the Water and
Sewer Funds in the amount of approximately 560,000 under aceount numbers 400-5502-533-3400, 410-
3306-333-3400 and 410-5508-535-3400.
RECONL'~IENDATION: Extend the welding convact for one additional year to Viaplex, Inc. at the contract
prices.
