Staff Report
Agenda Item: Lifeguard Truck Upgrades
Date: November 21, 2001
Submitted by: David E. Thompson, Chief of Police/DPS
Background:
During the budgeting process, the purchase of a truck was included in the 2001-02 budget
for the lifeguards. The base price for a small pickup truck was $15,500, and this was theme
amount included in the budget. It was anticipated that there would be upgrades and
features that would be added when the truck was received.
When reviewing the specifications and options available under existing contracts, it
became apparent that somc upgrades should be made on the basc truck while ordering it
from the manufacturer. The combined efforts of lifeguards and mechanics, with Police
review, resulted in the following recommendations for the lifeguard truck:
Base Price 16529
5 Spd Manual Trans -731
4.6 V-8 1340
12 volt power supply 65
Heavy duty towing 490
Sliding rear window 125
8' Bed 300
Tow Noak 40
Spray on Bed liner 469
Headlight flashers 97
Total 18724
Budgeted 15500
Difference 53224
1/2 ton pick up 4X4 Ford
The increase in the budget of $3,224 will be reimbursed this year by the City of
Jacksonville as a capital expense under the Interlocal Agreement.
Budget: With City Commission approval, the lifeguard capital budget will be increased
by $3,224 for 2001-02. This budget adjustment will be made during the mid-year budget
adjustments. The funding source will be the capital improvements funding from the City
of Jacksonville under the Interlocal Agreement.
