I am writing in regards to the recent article in the Times Union Shorelines on Saturday June 24th. The article stated that the Freebird Nightclub wishes to move to the Atlantic Theatres.
I sincerely hope that this will be denied. I am the owner of Bailey’s Powerhouse Gym and we are planning to relocate in the adjacent building to the Atlantic Theatres that is currently
under construction. I do not think Chris Hionides (owner of Atlantic Theatres & the Landlord of the new Bailey’s Powerhouse Gym building) has taken the other tenants into consideration
in leasing this space to Frrebirds. The gym will require a significant amount of parking in the evening hours at the same time as the nightclub. I have been at the Comedy Club on several
occasions and they are busy in the same time frame. I do not believe there will be adequate parking for all three places.
I also do not feel the Atlantic Beach area needs to pursue a Nightclub in this family friendly area. Bailey’s has leased from Chris Hionides a space that is approximately 16,000 square
feet. The co-ed club will have a very upscale build-out that will feature a group fitness aerobic studio, saunas, cardiovascular training equipment and a juice bar. We want to build
and atmosphere of Health & Fitness in the Atlantic Beach communityand I do not feel a bar will help this.
