AGENDA ITEM: Police Union Contract

ACTION REQUESTED: That the City Commission approve the Police union contract for the
period October 1, 1998 through September 30, 2001.
BACKGROUND: The City and Police union have agreed to the provisions of a new
contract.. Only salary is retroactive to October 1, 1998 with all
other changes effective upon contract approval. The key features
of the contract are:
1. Three year contract from October 1, 1998 through September
30, 200E -
- 2. Variable pay increase effective October 1, 1998 and an increase
effective October 1, 1999 and October 1, 2000 as follows:
a. If more than 6 months service: + 4
b. If less than 6 months service: + 2
3. Change life insurance from $20,000 to that provided other
employees, i.e., one times annual salary with a $50,000
maximum.
4. Provide $25 monthly Longevity pay for every five years of
service.
5. Increase monthly educational incentive for an Associate Degree
from $25 to $50 and for a Bachelor Degree from $40 to $100.
6. Increase leave accrual rates to be equal to that of other
employees.
BUDGET: Funds ($60,287) for these actions are currently within the budget.

RECOMMENDATION: That the City Commission approve the Police union contract for the
period October 1, 1998 through September 30, 2001.
