2401 Mayport Road (Comfort Inn) Sign WaiverDave and Sonya; The Mayor and Commission last night approved a temporary waiver to allow the Comfort Inn on Mayport Rd. to replace the sign faces on their non-conforming sign. They were originally denied a permit to replace the damaged faces (with their new corporate logo) because the sign exceeds the current height limit. The owners of the Comfort Inn told the commission that they were being forced by their franchise company to update to the new logo in the next few weeks or face loss of the franchise. The commission voted to allow them to replace the faces in the existing sign but only for a temporary period. Before July 1st of 2007, the owner of the Inn must submit a report to the commission as to how they are going to bring their sign in compliance with current regulations. The expectation is that the sign will be changed to meet our standards in 2007. It is our understanding that the Comfort Inn will change franchise names in four years and therefore expect to change the sign faces out again at that time. Therefore, they will be designing a new sign that will accommodate both the new Comfort Inn logo but also the logo for the new franchise in four years. If you need any clarification on this, please let me know or refer to the minutes. Jim
