Exh 8A8 ~1 ~-z7-oo City of Atlantic Beach City Commission Meeting Staff Report Agenda Item: Authorization for Mayor to Sign Grant Acceptance Agreement Date: March 16, ,2~,0~00' Submitted by: David E. Thompson, Director of Public Safety Background: Last year, Atlantic Beach was notified about the existence of a competitive grant under the State Emergency Management Preparedness and Assistance Grant Program. After researching the grant, staff found that they could request funding for a maximum of $300,000 for hazard mitigation. However, it was a competitive process, and hundreds of other communities would be applying for the same limited funding. Most of the projects would not be funded. With the assistance and approval of the City Manager, Public Works Director, and Finance Director, and with clerical assistance from Julie Brandt (City Clerks Office} and Trudy Lopanik (City Manager Secretary}, an application was submitted to the State Department of Community Affairs. After the hundreds of applications were reviewed and scored by DCA, Atlantic Beach's application was approved for full funding, $300,000. The application identified the mitigation project as including storm water work and sewer rehabilitation for the core city area between Plaza Road and Selva Marina Circle. This included 9a', l0a', 1 la', and 12~ Streets, which are areas with a history of repetitive flooding. T'he Department of Community Affairs routinely requires an Acceptance Agreement signed by the Mayor for grant awards. Recommendations: To authorize the Mayor to sign an acceptance letter for this grant award.
