Dear Mr. Shea:
This letter serves to confirm that the City Commission, on November 13, 2006, approved your
request for a Waiver from the City's sign regulations to allow for the full face panel replacement
for the existing Comfort Inn sign, which is a nonconforming pylon sign, located at 2401 Mayport
Road, subject to the following conditions:
• This Sign Waiver is granted for a temporary time period, and shall expire July 01, 2007.
• Prior to July 01, 2007, the applicant shall submit a report to the City Commission
addressing how the existing sign will be brought into compliance with current sign
regulations.
Please be advised that a Sign Permit is required for this face replacement, and you may contact

Applications requesting that certain provisions of the sign regulations be waived may be made to the City
Commission in accordance with the following section of the Code of Ordinances for the City of Atlantic
Beach.
Sec. 17-52. Requests to waive certain terms of this Chapter.
Requests to waive terms of this Chapter may be made upon specific application to the City Commission, with proper
public notice required, provided that no waiver shall be requested that would allow a Prohibited Sign, or any
otherwise unlawful Sign. The applicant requesting such waiver shall have the burden of demonstrating the need for
the requested waiver, and that the waiver is not in conflict with the Intent of this Chapter. The terms of any waiver to
the provisions of this Chapter shall be established by order of the City Commission.

Sign Modifications Required by Choice Hotels
1. Repaint existing sign pole - black.
2. Install 2 acrylic "Comfort Inn" sign faces with new logo, which will replace existing sign faces
(5'8" high x 16'7" wide) per Choice Hotel specifications.
3. Install 2 cabinet extenders on existing sign cabinet, which will prevent bulbs from burning acrylic
sign faces per Choice Hotel specifications.
4. Install new metal halide bulbs in existing sign.
Total Project Cost Including Installation & Taxes = $8,796.40
