BACKGROUND: The City's current contract for providing chlorine and sulfur dioxide for the
water and wastewater treatment plants is with Jones Chemical, Inc. These chemicals are used
for disinfection and dechlorination at the treatment plants, and their use is required as part of our
Department of Environmental Protection permits. This contract was awarded on June 28, 1999,
and expires on June 30, 2000.

City staff has been pleased. with the service from this company, and they have met our Risk
Management Plan and Process Safety Management requirements. They have agreed to extend
the contract for an additional year at the current prices.
BUDGET: Funds are budgeted in the water and sewer funds for both Atlantic Beach and
Buccaneer Divisions in the amount of $40,000, under account nos. 410-4101-535-52, 410-4401-
535-52, 400-4001-535-52, and 400-4301-535-52.
RECOMMENDATION: Extend the contract with Jones Chemical for one year at the
current prices.
