BACKGROUND: The project to replace existing undersized water mains at various locations
throughout the City is now successfully completed.
The project was designed by the Smith & Gillespie Engineers, Inc., and bids were received on
July 21, 1999. The low bid was awarded to the construction firm of Gruhn May, Inc. of
Jacksonville, Florida for $639,349.08. The final construction cost for completion of the project
is $615,389.27, which results in the project being under the currently approved total by
$23,959.8 L
During the work, every effort was made to lessen the impact of the construction on residents,
and complete the project under budget. A great deal of credit must go to the City's own resident
inspector, and the City's water distribution crews who were on site during the entire period. of
construction, and proposed many time saving ideas to improve the project.
BUDGET: The City Commission awarded the project to Gruhn May, Inc. for a total of
$b39,349.08 on July 26 1999.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the Final Change Order for a credit of $23,959.81.
