Exh 8C June 26, 2000 ;:°~. _ r CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH CITY COMMISSION MEETING STAFF REPORT AGENDA ITEM: Milling and Paving for the Public Works Department SUBMITTED BY: Robert S. Kosoy, Director of Public Works ~~ DATE: June 20, 2000 BACKGROUND: The Milestone Company was awarded the bid for milling and paving of several streets for the Public Works Department. This work has been completed, and City staff has been very pleased with their workmanship. Their original bid came in at a total of $235,663.17, well under the budgeted amount of $403,000.00. Many streets were patched during the 1999 Water System Improvements Project, and some of the remaining funds can be used to mill and pave these areas. Staff contacted Raymond Grode, Division Manager with Milestone Company, and he agreed to honor the bid prices for additional milling and paving. The Public Works Department is requesting that the following streets be milled and paved: Live Oak Lane from Selva Marina Drive to Saturiba Drive. 14th Street from East Coast Drive to Beach Ave. Club Drive from Beach Ave. to Ocean Blvd. Robert Street from George Street to Mayport Road. Lewis Street from George Street to Mayport Road. Jackson Road from Francis Street to Mayport Road. The contract rate is $4.13 per square yard. There is approximately 9,954 square yards, for a total cost of $41,110.12 to mill and pave the above streets. The contractor originally included East Coast Drive from 12th Street to 15`'' Street, Beach Ave. from 8"' Street to Club Drive and Ocean Blvd. from Club Drive to 10th Street, but these streets are candidates for drainage improvements within the next five years and were eliminated until the other improvements are complete. BUDGET: This work will be funded from Account number 130-5002-541.63-00 in the Road & Streets Division. The amount budgeted for FY99-00 is $403,000.00, and even with milling and paving these additional streets, we will only have spent $276,773.29. RECOMMENDATION: Award the above list of streets to be milled and paved by The Milestone Company. ATTACHMENTS: 1. Contractor's Proposal 2.
