SUBJECT: Follow-up items
The following are responses to questions and requests for additional information that
were made in recent City Commission meetings.
Street Sweeper Schedule: Questions were raised at the last Commission Meeting about
the schedule of the city's street sweeping contract. A1157 miles of paved streets in
Atlantic Beach are swept on a bi-monthly basis under this contract. All streets in Atlantic
Beach were swept during the week of June 26-30. In particular, Sherry Drive was swept
at approximately 9:00 am on Wednesday, June 28th.
Mayport Road Retention Pond: The City Commission expressed concern over the looks
of anew retention pond to be built by.JTA fronting on Mayport Road just to the north of
the Hess station. For this reason, the city staff has suggested that the JTA consider some
city owned property in the vicinity of the Buccaneer waste water treatment plant as a
alternate site for the retention pond which would not front on Mayport road. JTA is
currently studying the engineering feasibility of placing the pond at this alternate location.
Merry-Go-hounds: Staff was asked in the last Commission meeting if the city had had
any claims from accidents on merry-go-rounds in city parks. A review of claims from
1987 to date has not identified any claims made for injuries at Atlantic Beach parks,
however, the Director of Public Safety knows of one claim in our city prior to that time
where a young boy suffered a broken leg on a city merry-go-round.
