SRC Meeting_Scheduled; Ameeting of the Storm Water Review Committee to consider the
Aikenhead & Odom final recommendations for the core city storm water project has been
scheduled for Thursday evening, August 10~' at 6:00 pm. These same recommendations will be
outlined to the City Commission at the meeting on July 24, 2000.
IT Report/Strategic Grants PIan submitted; Two major reports were turned into staff during
the Last week. The first is the Information Technology (IT) Plan being prepared by Essential Net
Solutions Inc. An initial. meeting has already been held to consider the 147 page report.
Additional meetings with staffwill be conducted in the next two weeks to discuss and further
prioritize the recommendations. It is expected that several of the highest priority items will be
included in the city's FY00-O1 budget for consideration by the Mayor and Commission.
The initial report of the Strategic Grants Plan prepared by PBS&J consultants has also been
submitted. The report has identified several possible new grant sources that the City of Atlantic
Beach has not utilized in past years. It is organized to follow the City Commission's strategic
priority items set forth in April. A meeting will be conducted with city staff in the near future to
discuss the findings and prioritize possible applications.
Budget Preparation; Over the last_month, the staff's preparation of the proposed FY00-O1
budget has taken a considerable amount of time. All city department heads have turned in their
initial budget recommendations and, by the time of the Commission meeting on 7/24, the City
Manager and Finance Director will have met with each department head to review the
recommendations in detail. Several modifications have been made to the initial recommendations
from the department heads. The next phase of the budget preparation process will include tallying
the approved recommendations, assessing the City's anticipated financial balance at the end of the
current as well as the upcoming fiscal years and assembling data to assess long term trends and
other major factors that will have impacts on the City's budget. We plan to present a preliminary
budget for the mayor and commission to consider in early August.
Purchasing Director Retires; Joan LaVake, city purchasing director for several years has
submitted her resignation, Her retirement decision was most likely influenced by some recent
medical problems that she has. She has served the city for 24 years. We wish her the best of luck
in her retirement.

New Administrative Assistant; Yvonne Calverley has been hired as the replacement for Trudy
Lopanik who also retired recently. She retired from the Navy with 21 years of service and has
had a number of assignments which include top aide to the Supreme Allied Commander, Europe,
Ship's Secretary, Company Commander, and, her last. assignment was as the Chief Administrator _ _

Septic Tank Conversion; Letters were sent out to approximately 300 septic tank owners in
Atlantic Beach that have sewer system availability in late June and early July. As of July I8~, 12
of those have requested City assistance for financing and/or contracting. There requests are
currently being processed.
