AGENDA ITEM: Authorize City Manager to enter into a contract with the City of
Jacksonville for $100,000 to construct Dune Walkovers.

BACKGROUND: Shorty Merritt with the City of Jacksonville Parks and Recreation
Department advised us that there is money available within the City
of Jacksonville's current budget for Dune Walkovers.
A draft letter has been submitted to Shorty Memtt with information
on how the funds would be spent. Shorty Merritt explained that a
contract would have to be completed between the City of Atlantic
Beach and the City of Jacksonville to receive the funds.
Staffhas located 4 areas where the $100,000 can be spent. The
locations are as follows:
• Ahern Street- We are building up the access with ten loads
of sand to level the area. We are also constructing a
disability accessible walkway with landscaping.-$30,000
• 6`~` Street -Walkover, Bike Rack and Shower- $27,500
• 1 lth Street -(Matching Grant available) Walkover, Bike
Rack {Matching Grant See Attached)- $15,000
BUDGET:
• 13`~ Street -Walkover, Bike Rack and Shower- $27,500
None
RECOMMENDATION: Authorize the City Manager to enter into a contract with
Jacksonville to obtain $100,000 for the construction of Dune
Walkovers and Facilities.

In order to build up and protect the shoreline at our oceanfront, the City of Atlantic Beach
proposes to eliminate pedestrian traffic through the dunes by constructing wallcovers. The
walkovers will also allow accessibility for'disabled persons The followlrg ~is a list of proposed

Attached is a copy of the City Ordinance pertaining to dune walkovers and a letter concerning the
matching grant. Per our conversation, there is funding in the City of Jacksonville's budget for the
