SUBMITTED BY: Timmy Johnson, Recreation Director DATE: August. 9, 2000 BACKGROUND: Shorty Merritt with the City of Jacksonville Parks and Recreation Department advised us that there is money available within the City of Jacksonville's current budget for Dune Walkovers. A draft letter has been submitted to Shorty Memtt with information on how the funds would be spent. Shorty Merritt explained that a contract would have to be completed between the City of Atlantic Beach and the City of Jacksonville to receive the funds. Staffhas located 4 areas where the $100,000 can be spent. The locations are as follows: • Ahern Street- We are building up the access with ten loads of sand to level the area. We are also constructing a disability accessible walkway with landscaping.-$30,000 • 6`~` Street -Walkover, Bike Rack and Shower- $27,500 • 1 lth Street -(Matching Grant available) Walkover, Bike Rack {Matching Grant See Attached)- $15,000 BUDGET: • 13`~ Street -Walkover, Bike Rack and Shower- $27,500 None RECOMMENDATION: Authorize the City Manager to enter into a contract with Jacksonville to obtain $100,000 for the construction of Dune Walkovers and Facilities.
