Exh 9City Manager Report
August 9, 2000
Position Upgrade; An authorized City position has been upgraded. Joan LaVake retired as the
City's Purchasing Director several weeks ago and the position was filled by the former Purchasing
Clerk; Edie Mickey. The Finance Director felt that the purchasing duties could be handled by the
new Purchasing Director without filling the purchasing clerk position. The Finance Director has
been requesting the addition of an accountant position for several months which would allow a
number of improvements. to internal operations. Therefore, the old position of purchasing clerk
has been eliminated and a new position for an accountant has been added and is currently being
advertised for applicants.
Wonderwood Landscaping Plans; The JTA has provided a copy of the final landscaping plans
for the Wonderwood project. There are available in my office if anyone would like to see them.
Public Works Reorganization; Effective August 14, management responsibilities in the Public
Works Department have been reorganized. Donna Kaluzniak, formerly the Assistant Public
Works Director, will be reclassified to a new position of Utility Director and will take direct
responsibility for management of the City's water, sewer and wastewater operations.. This new
Utility Director position will report to the Director of Public Works. This change is expected to
allow that Director to spend more time on other Public Works functions including streets,
sanitation, storm drainage and the City gaia~e. Also, the City's two meter rea ers ave een
transferred from-fit e Public Works Department to the Finance Dep__artment for reporting purposes.

- This has been done because most of the day to day direction is given through the Finance
Department.
