AGENDA # 9 AUGUST 28, 2000 City Manager Report August 23, 2004 Employee Recognition Program; City Staff has recommended the establishment of a new Employee Recognition Program which would recognize an Employee of the Month. A description of the proposed program is attached. Each Employee of the Month would receive ih day off, and "Employee of the Month" pin, a certificate of recognition and $100 in cash as well as other recognition. Atlantic Beach currently has an Employee Awards Program for money saving ideas which allows for a payment to the employee based upon the savings. The intent of this new recognition program is for employees to be eligible for both programs, but not "double dip" by receiving funds from both for the same idea. The cost of the program to the City is estimated to be $1200 per year plus miscellaneous costs for pins, certificates and an estimated loss of productivity through time offtotaling an estimated six days per year. All of these can be absorbed within existing City budgets. Block Parties Approved; Two block parties have been approved for the Labor Day weekend on September 31d. The first will be in the 300 block of 4~ Street and the second will be in the block of 3~' Street ending at the beach. In both cases, the citizens in the area will be allowed to erect barricades or place cones provided that they are easily removable for emergency vehicles and they will be expected to accommodate any citizens that need to travel through the areas to get access to their residences. Core City,Sewer Rehab Work; If time is available, Donna Kaluzniak will make a short presentation about the sewer rehab project that is presently ongoing in the Core City area. AGENDA # 9 AUGUST 28, 2000 ..y Suggestions for Employee Recognition Program Recommendation: New Monthly Employee Recognition Program: 1. Nominations for consideration for Employee of the Month may be made through any member of the City workforce. Recommendations will articulate why this person or this team of people should be selected for recognition, and the recommendation will be submitted to a committee for consideration. 2. Nominations will not be limited by department. All City employees will be eligible for recognition each month. 3. The selection will be made by a standing committee primarily consisting of department heads. Before making a decision, the committee members will review personnel evaluations and discuss the nomination with their staff people who interact with this individual to assure an accurate representation of the nominee's performance. 4. The recommendation will be forwarded to the City Manager for approval. Once a selection has been made, there will be no course of appeal. 5. The selected members will receive %2 day off, and public recognition including the ' City Commission, Tide Views, bulletin boards, and the news media. Additionally, the Employee will receive: A. Pin on the uniform/work clothes designating Employee of the Month B. Parking place designated for the Employee of the Month where feasible C. $100 in cash to be awarded in front of co-workers D. Official recognition in their personnel file E. Framed Certificate of Recognition 6. Those nominated but not chosen, will be notified, and will be eligible for recognition under the Employee Recognition Program. 7. Employees selected for Monthly honors will be considered for Employee of the Year recognition at the end of the year.
